Agatha Christie

Agatha Christie plaque outside Torquay Museum - part of the Agatha Christie mileDame Agatha Christie is the only crime writer to have created two equally-successful and enduring characters – Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. During her lifetime she wrote 82 novels as Agatha Christie plus 6 romantic novels under the pen name of Mary Westmacott. It has been estimated that two billion copies of her works have been sold in over 45 languages in more than 70 countries - outsold only by the Bible and Shakespeare!

Also an accomplished playwright, Agatha Christie is the only female dramatist ever to have had 3 plays running simultaneously in London's West End. The Mousetrap remains the world's longest running play.
